D. Arthur Gusner is a U.S. Army veteran, physicist, marine researcher, and author whose life has been shaped by service, science, exploration, and an enduring curiosity about humanity’s future. Determined to serve his country, he entered the United States Army at the age of sixteen and completed three years of honorable service. He later earned degrees in chemistry and physics from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Gusner went on to spend twenty years as a physicist for the United States Navy, specializing in submarine warfare. Following the Cold War, he turned his attention to marine research, exploration, and the search for historically significant shipwrecks.
His scientific knowledge, military experience, and understanding of submarine operations helped inspire the Guardian Series, a complete five-book military science-fiction saga comprising Guardian Force, Earth Guardian, Guardian Probe, Guardian Strike, and Guardian Thunder. Set five centuries in the future, the series combines interstellar conflict, advanced technology, tactical warfare, alien civilizations, and the evolving relationship between humanity and self-aware Guardian AIs.
Gusner is also the author of Gepeto—Memoir—a Gift of Love, the deeply personal story of his journey toward renewed freedom and independence through his partnership with a guide dog. He lives in Cambria on California’s Central Coast with his yellow Labrador guide dog, Limo. Across both science fiction and memoir, his writing explores courage, service, sacrifice, resilience, discovery, and the relationships that define what it means to be human.
